Friday’s Fave Five ~ # 2

Hooray for Fridays!!

FFF birds on a wire

This has been a tough week.  There are times that things happen that you really just can’t understand why, and no matter how many ways you ask the question….there is just no answer.

Despite the sad news from home, there where things that lifted my spirit and my heart this week.  And for that I am grateful.

1.  Family.  During a time of loss, family is so very important.  I’m thankful I come from a large family and so I know that my sister is being taken care of.  Being loved, being distracted and that there are people there for her.  Of course I wish I was at home with her right now but I just can’t be.

my sister who lost her baby this week carrying my niece. – she’ll make a great mom I know.

2.  Breakfast with a group of mums.  This week a class parent for my 10th grader got us together for a Valentine breakfast.  We also played a game where we had to buy 5 gifts under 3 pounds each to give to five random people.  Our gifts where fun, practical, cheeky and delicious.  It was good for my soul to be there with them.

3. Information. Sharing information.  By this I mean,  by spending time with other moms who also have kids in grade 10 and are the age of 15, 16years old – sharing information is so important.  Information on what’s happening at school, where the kids are hanging out, what their doing when they get together out of school and on and on and on.  I learnt a few things yesterday about our kids and different styles of parenting.  And whenever you can share information about parenting, it’s a good thing.

4. Snow.  I have to be honest here – I miss the snow.  Not the cold that comes with it but having white flakes fall from the sky, that’s magical!!  This week we had a little snow.  Just enough to cover the ground and cars, but also enough to appreciate winter and that white blanket covering.

5.  Lastly for # 5….flowers.  No matter what kind of a day I’m having, (or week ) for that matter flowers always cheer me up and put a smile on my face.

Hello Kari,
I'm so sorry to hear your sister lost her baby. That is a hard thing to bear. Glad there are loved ones close who can comfort her.
What a nice idea to breakfast with all those moms and get some good interaction. We get snow only on occasion here and it is fun to see but lousy to navigate. Have a great weekend.

Ohhhh, my heart is so sad for you, your family, and most especially for your sister. Sending prayers of comfort.

I LOVE the gift exchange idea. I've been thinking of doing something similar. I've been procrastinating because I didn't know if it would really work. As it sounds like your's was a hit, I am going to plan mine. Did you have a favourite?

I'm so very sorry for your sister - what sad news. Glad she has the comfort of a large, loving family - it makes a difference.

Glad also that you had some things to brighten up your week. Friends and flowers and even a little snow.

Sending hugs your way.

Sorry to hear of your family's loss. Praying that your sister is comforted by The Comforter as well as feeling family love and care.

It's great that a group of parents can get together and share support. Being a parent of a teenager is not easy!

I'm so sorry to hear that your sister had a miscarriage. She will be lifted up in my prayers. Yes, parenting support for children at ANY age is so important!! I lead a small group of moms and we all have teens/college kids. It's been a fun 3 years..we are in our 4th year and this year we are going through the book The Power of a Praying Parent. I highly recommend it. Enjoy the weekend!!

I am so sorry to hear about the loss of your sister's baby. We don't have answers for why some things happen, but I pray she's receiving comfort during this time.

It is so good to get together with other moms to keep on top of what's going on and to encourage and support each other.

Beautiful flowers!

I am so sorry for your sister's loss! And sorry that you can't physically be with her at this time. May both your hearts be comforted.

How nice to have a such a large group of moms to share teenager parenting ideas with. Just the thought that one is not alone in the parenting journey is so helpful and encouraging.
