Our Hearts are Full.

3 weeks ago we rescued this handsome one.

My kids have been asking forever for a dog and I finally did it.  I decided to rescue him from owners that did not want him at all.  His siblings have also been resuced by other families.

So here he is ........... Introducing River, my Kazakh mutt and did I mention he's a handsome one. πŸ˜‰

Of course, I don't know what environment he's coming from so sometimes he gets scared, thinks he's in danger and/or becomes aggressive.

But one thing is for sure he's brought much joy to my kids and my husband and I.
We're ready to love on him.

Welcome River.πŸ’—

Wordless Wednesday

If you ever have the opportunity to vist, do it.
The love story is real ........... and you can feel it.πŸ’—

OMG - what happened to March ??

Cause it's April already??!! .......Whaaaaaaat??

I hope you all had a lovely Easter weekend!  We were travelling, travelling back from Thailand.  I know what you're thinking.....again?!

Yes we went home again.  And as always we had a relaxing time and now it's back to the grind of life - real life.

I 'heart' Thailand.  This time we went to the other side of Phuket and we did things a little differently.  My husband and I even went to a cooking class.  It was fun and really super easy.  I get intimidated sometimes when it comes to cooking but this class seemed so easy.   And after the class I am convinced that 'anyone can cook'.

Well I'm looking forward to April and then May.  We have 11 weeks left of school for this academic year.  And my 8th grader is counting down for sure .....cause this is it for her, here.  She'll be off to boarding school ........sigh.  It's a little too much for my heart, but necessary.  It's a good thing she's actually looking forward to it.

Happy April friends.

28th of February

This day is always a hard one for me.

It's one of those 'would have been days'.

Happy Birthday to my Dad ..........I celebrate you today and will always remember πŸ’—

Remembering you is easy, I do it every day.
Missing you is the heartache that never goes away.

Monochrome Monday

Monday mornings aren't always the best for me.

I'm still tired from the weekend, the house is a mess and I need a strong cup of coffee to get me going.  Oh and I need to get out of the house to go get my 'sweat on'.

Do you go to the gym and when do you get a workout?  I'm a morning person.  I like to get it out of the way so it's not hanging over my head, the whole day.

lazy weekends....

Happy Monday!

Hug Someone Today

I don't think I'm the only one here....

I am sick and tired of waking up and hearing of another school shooting.  It makes me upset, makes me angry and it definetaly has me asking 'why are we not able to make our schools safe??.......why....

I hate to get political on my blog and I always try to steer away from politics, but I think we are at a point where this is beyond politics.  It's a problem.  And a big one at that.

Everytime this happens, we'll talk about this, feel bad and point fingers at each other and blame this group or that group,  but then nothing is done - or nothing that we can see that's being done.

I'm at a loss to understand how schools which are suppose to be a safe place for our kids is now not.  It's just not anymore....

Hug your kids today, give them the confidence to speak up when they see or feel something is off and tell them never to be afraid to raise a concern about something.

Valentine's Day and a Visit to the Retirement Home

And these three remain; faith, hope and love.  But the greatest of these is Love.

Today we visited a retirement home to spread some love and gifts to the elders in that home.  It was a heart warming event not only for them but I think I got more from it.

Both my grand parents have passed on and I remember spending time with them, listening to them tell their stories and pass on their wisdom and knowledge.  I miss that.  Of course yesterday there was the language issue but what came through was the sharing of smiles and hugs.  Lots of hugs.....

And on the home front......well love remains

and Grace and patience too.  Cause it's important and needed 😝

.Happy Valentines to my Valentine, my rock and my best friend.

Truth Tuesday

Want to know something about me......there are so many times in my life where I just 'wing it'!

Yep, I might look like I have everything under control and things are rosy...... but don't you beleive that for a second.

Life is messy and life gets hard sometimes.  And yes adulting is hard...... but I'm so grateful that I get to do it with this man.

From the first time I met him I recall him being so calm.  Quietly confident and a man of few words but when he spoke you knew he meant every word.  And today he is still that man.

I get frassled, I worry and yes I overthink things sometimes (i'm a woman😏) so it's so great to have Rohan as a partner who is the total opposite in so many ways......

Monochrome Monday.

It's Valentines week.

My husband and I don't do valentines.  I don't expect anything from him and he doesn't expect anything from me either.  We've just never done it.  Infact this week he won't even be here - he's travelling, but that's ok.

Anyway, just because I've decided to  honor my better half on my blog.  So here's to a week full of love and appreciation for this man I call my husband, my valentine.

And because it's mono monday - here's a B&W picture of us.

We've learnt not to take ourselves too seriously!! No one else does :) LOL.

we're goofballs, but he's my rock.

weekends are for......

Letting the good times roll!

We partied Saturday night celebrating Mardi Gras.  I love how our diverse community can come together and celebrate a predominantly American Holiday!!

It was a fun night.  It was also probably the most stress free party that I have helped to plan.  I was in charge of music and a great party always needs good music so we put some thought into it.

And today we just relaxed.  We caught up on our TV series that we follow and even found a new program to watch.

Hope your weekend was a fun one too.

Yesterday was.....

a long day!!

I did wake up to watch the game like I said I would.  Which was ok, but what made it even longer was the fact that we lost.

My team lost, which made me sad and a that's why it was a really long day.

Yes I get invested in a team but we move on.  We certainly got outplayed.  The Patriots defense was shocking.  But you win (many other SuperBowls) and we loose some.  That's sports.
My kids even got up and watched with me, which kind of surprised me but it was great.

We didn't have any of those Super Bowl foods cause it was too early, but we watched.

Anyway I made it through the day. And I will give credit where credit is due.  Well Done Eagles!!

On another note.... my neice is getting married.  And I'm super excited, cause this means we get to go home!!!

I'm looking forward to planning.

Happy Tuesday!

It's Super Bowl Weekend!

And I'm here in Almaty (the former capital of Kazakhstan) half way across the world from where the game will be played.
But I'll be getting up early Monday morning our time to watch the game for sure!!

I think I happened upon American Football.  I'm a Rugby Lover - Rubgy League and Rugby Union.  I grew up watching these games and played a version of it back in my school days.  But for almost 15 years I have watched the NFL (National Football League in the US).  I learned the game from watching the games on TV.  I don't totally understand the jargon of NFL, but I enjoy watching.......watching he New Englad Patriots!!

I know they are probably a really polarising team.  There are a lot of haters, but that's my team.

And this weekend I'm hoping the NE Patriots win the game.  Last years SuperBowl was surreal.  I don't think that will happen again.  I'm expecting a close game for sure...

But before the Super Bowl the Six Nations begins tonight.  Scotland Vs Wales.  I'm happy rugby season is back.  It's been too long.

Which team you got for the Super Bowl??   And who are you tipping to win the Six Nations?

Happy Saturday!

Hello February!!

OMG, what happened to January?  That sure was fast.  It only seems like yesterday we were watching incredible displays of fireworks all over the world, and today well it's February!!

Life's moving for sure!!

Well it's still cold around here, that hasn't changed.  But it's been a pitiful showing of snow for this winter season.  Gosh,  I remember my first winter here in Atyrau , it was white.  Pure pretty white snow and there was lots of it.

You see for me when there's snow it just makes the cold bearable.

Otherwise nothing much happening as we go into month 2 of 2018.  My husband has gotten busier (but when is he not, really.  That is why we live here).  The kids are well into school and are working on science fair projects right now.  We still have a month more to wait on my middle child's school applications (from the US)  although she has an offer already from a school in the UK...... yay,  and it's time again to sign up for the healthy heart month challenge - 28 miles in 28 days!!!

Click here if you want to get moving in the month of February and record your mileage with us (Your mileage helps our small school out)

lacing it up again!! (I have got new shoes)

Yep, I'm doing it again.

You could say I'm a runner and I enjoy it and I can totally do the mileage. Distance is not the problem - I ran 156  (So I went back to see how many miles I ran last year and it was 114.... ) miles last year !!.  So I'm setting a challenge for myself.
This time around it's all about my time and speed.

I hope it's not unrealistic, cause I think we are stronger than we give ourselves credit for, so here it is. By the end of the month I'm aiming to be able to run a 6 minute mile.  I'm 42 and have never had a serious injury but my knees sometimes give me problems but that's my challenge.

A 6 minute mile!!

Wish me luck and happy February everyone!

What a Weekend.....

I did something this weekend that I've never done before.....  I hosted a party at my house, and I think it went well.

How difficult can it be really? As long as there is good food, awesome music and lots of drink choices for everyone,  It's got to go well right.....  Oh and the company, you always need good company.

I sent out my save the date and invite last year...... and Saturday night they sailed in!!

It was a fun fun weekend of some island vibe fun in the dead of winter in Kazakhstan.

How was your weekend??

Happiness is......

Being an Auntie again.

2 years ago my sister lost her preemie baby which was really hard for her.  2 weeks ago she was blessed with a healthy little girl.....again.

I'm so happy for her and her husband.  And we're thrilled to add onto our already big family and my kids are excited for another cousin.

One more to add to this picture.... #cousinlove

New Week equals New Opportunities

Woah it's cold today!!  so cold that it made my head hurt while I went outside to get some pictures.  But I had to go out and soak up the beauty of it all.

Cause it really is beautiful.  And the skies are blue too.
That's my kind of winter - the sky has to be blue, not that dreary grey.  That messes with my energy.

On another note, my daughter's school applications close today and in true Baure form we we're scrambling last night to finish off a few things.
But we got it done.  Now it's just a waiting game.  Wish us luck!!

Have a great week!  Anything exciting planned?

Kazakh Customs/Traditions.

Last Sunday my husband and I were invited to be a part of celebration.  In Kazakh a Besik-Toi celebration, which literally translates to - cradle celebration.
A celebration of 40 days of life for this little sweetie in my arms and apparently her naming ceremony.

I had just got off a plane but I really wanted to go.  And when given the opportunity to experience local traditions and cultures from this place we currently call home, I'll go.

It was such a beautiful celebration.  Relatives from both sides of the family and honored guests where invited.  And it had everything that I've come to expect from Kazahk parties - lots of food, drinks, speeches and toasts.  And yes, even dancing!!

Once we all sat down (an hour and half later) the little baby girl was brought in and put into the cradle, then a close relative, which i believe was her grandfather called into her tiny ears 'your name is..... your name is......Eileen.  After that they tied her in securely into the cradle and continued with the ceremony.  As baby Eileen lay in the cradle sweets where placed into it while one of older women said/sang a prayer.

As I sat there and watched I could feel the love.  I was lucky to have sat next to one of my husbands workmates who patiently translated the speeches and graciously explained what was being done, I soaked it all up.

It was really a beautiful thing to watch.
Like I said you could feel the love for this little girl and her parents and her family.  I also realised  how important these traditions are and how it brings people together.
It truly does take a village to raise a child.

Well while I was at this celebration here in KZ, my youngest sister was having her baby half way around the world.  And I know for sure that when the time comes she will also carry out some of our customs and traditions that we have.   My mother did it for us and my sisters and I have done the same for our children.

Traditions and customs are important.  Such things help us to keep our identity relate with our people, our village.
And as an expat raising TC kids (Third Culture Kids), this is something I hold very close to my heart.

Have you seen or experienced a different culture?? Or do you have some customs and traditions that are important to you?

Do Share.

Happy Weekend.

I Did My Happy Dance Today!!

Yep, you bet I did!  Why you ask....cause the kids are back in school.

image from Pixaby
It was a long break.  3 weeks of being together in hotel rooms is long!  Don't get me wrong I enjoy our vacations/holidays/time together but separation is good.  Good for everyone.

My kids have missed their friends and I'd even bet on it that they've missed the structure of school.  They like it.  I've missed my 'me time' too.  I'm honest.

Well with the kids off to school and time on my hands again - apart from the usual running of the house, keeping everybody fed, clean and manages different schdules ......... I've been thinking of a few projects/classes for me for this year.

I've got some ideas floating around in my head.  Ideas for now but I hope to have something concrete by the weekend.

Are your kids back in school?  What are your plans/goals/dreams for this new year?

Do Share......

There is nothing better.....

Than sleeping in your own bed!!!  Seriously, next to clean sheets on my bed, I love sleeping in my own bed.

my bed
The last time I slept in my bed was last year (LOL), actually it's been exactly 3 weeks since I last slept in my bed and last nights sleep was glorious.  (I know I'm weird like that)

Anyway today I took my tree down.  I always feel like once I do this then the New Year really begins for me.  In a sense we put away the last of last years things and it's time to move forward.  Not just physically but also mentally.  Especially mentally.

It's now a week into the new year and I'm ready for 2018.  Ready to try new things and DO new things. To do life better, live simply and take those risk!!

Oh I received some happy and exciting news yesterday.  My sister had her baby girl yesterday and I am so relieved.  She lost her first child almost 2 years ago and yesterday she was blessed again.  Actually we all were.  I'm so happy for her and her husband and I know they'll be great parents.

Anyhoo.....gotta continue the clean up of my house.  Funny how taking down the tree makes you do that.  So much 'stuff' to get rid off.  But i'm determined to be clutter free for 2018.

Letsssss do this!!

Happy Monday friends!

What are you up to and how was your 1st week of 2018??

And it's a New Year!

Happy 2018 friends.

as the calendar has turned I can't believe that I haven't thought of any resolutions, which is what I usually do.  Promises to stop doing something or getting rid of something.  This time around I couldn't be bothered to be honest.  Cause 10 days in I fail......

What's going through my mind is this ......for 2018 all I really want to do is just to do life better!! To trust myself enough to take risks, to live boldly and simply.

Easy right............lets do this.  (Oh and to also be healthy and do my best to get rid of those last 10 pounds)!!
